The Bow Tie is traditionally worn with formal attire and dinner jackets, but is becoming more and more popular with a variety of fashion styles. The knot can seem tricky, practice - remember you are essentially trying to tie two symmetrical bows, one in front of the other, with a thin strand of cloth around your collar. |
| |
Drape the tie over your neck, and hold an end in each hand. The end in your left hand should extend about an inch or two below the end in your right. |
Cross the longer end over the shorter end, and pass the longer end up through the loop. (Refer Step 2 and 3) |
Form the front loop of the bow tie by doubling up the shorter end of the tie. |
Hold this front loop with your left thumb and forefinger as you drop the long end of the tie down over the front of your bow. |
Holding your right index finger pointing upward, place it on the bottom half of the loose end of the tie. |
With your finger, pass the loose end up, behind the front loop, and poke it behind the front loop. |
While the knot is loose, even out the two ends, then pull to tighten. |
